Sargeant’s Days at Misfit

Sargeant was dumped on the street, in front of the gates at Pell City Animal Control with only a bag of food and fighting for his life. He had Demodectic Mange, Influenza, kennel cough, and worms. Thankfully, he was Heartworm Negative.  He was dehydrated and malnourished. His teeth were worn down from chewing at his itchy skin. There was no hair on his tail and patches of fur missing all over his body. He looked so hopeless. See “Sarge’s Rescue Day” on our YouTube link:

Sargeant was on a lot of medications. We gave him his dewormer with scrambled eggs, probably the first time he ever had them, we think! He was on antibiotics for the flu and kennel cough, an antifungal for his feet, and medicated baths for his skin.  He spent almost 2 months in our isolation area so he could recover. Sargeant was so sick and literally needed to regain any strength he had. We spent this time with him, keeping him active, slowly. We even had a chance to hike at Tannehill Ironworks State Park. He enjoyed meeting all the people and had a blast in the stream! See “Sarge Takes Tannehill” on our link below.

Sargeant appeared to be an old man when we took him in. He got plenty of LOVE, food, water, rest, medications, time and all the rehabilitation there is to help one come back to life. He shined brighter than any star I have seen. He went from being homeless, helpless and hurting to becoming an awesome shepherd with a lot more life and the sweetest disposition. We didn’t want to see him leave and he was ready for adoption. See “Our Promise to Sarge” on our YouTube link:
