Jake’s Days at Misfits

Jake was on the run. He had been seen eating out of a deer feeder for nutrition. He had fly bitten ears and he was on the streets. One of our feelers out there contacted us with the story. We saw the posts on Facebook and everyone took action. He was eventually trapped and brought to Greater Birmingham Humane Society for Animal Control. No one claimed him and he needed help. We responded. This boy was only 43 lbs when he came to us. He was severely under weight and was Heartworm Positive. See “Rescue Alert Jake Full Video” on our YouTube link:

Jake spent time in our isolation area when he came in, due to being sick with Kennel Cough. When he was feeling better and had some weight back on him, he was ready to meet the pack and become another Misfit Shepherd. Jake loved to play with people and the pack. He spent almost 2 years with us while he went through rehabilitation, Heartworm treatment, and training. He reminded us of a class clown. He had a fun personality. When the right family came along for Jake, we had to wait it out. Normally we don’t adopt out to families with children (because we don’t have children for them to interact with to test their temperament). Jake’s new family already had a GSD that belonged to their daughter. They all made the trip from Georgia to see the interactions between them all. Jake was fabulous and we knew Cory wanted his own dog. Jake became theirs almost instantly. See “Our Promise to Jake” on our YouTube link:
