Welcome to Misfit Shepherds at Misfit Acres

Welcome to Misfit Shepherds at Misfit Acres

At Misfit Shepherds, we are not just a rescue — we are German Shepherd behavior specialists.

Roxane and I are German Shepherd–specific behaviorists. What does that mean? It means when a Shepherd comes to us, we don’t just provide shelter. We provide understanding. We provide structure. We provide rehabilitation.

Most German Shepherds that find themselves in rescue situations are there for a reason. Somewhere along the way, something went wrong — misunderstood behavior, lack of training, trauma, poor socialization, fear, or misplaced instincts.

We don’t guess.

We dig until we find the root of the issue — and then we correct it.

Real Rehabilitation. Real Results.

If a Shepherd struggles with small-animal aggression, we have 12 cats who patiently help them work through those issues safely and properly. We have even had Shepherds who once couldn’t be near a cat end up napping beside one on the same bed.

If a Shepherd has aggression toward other Shepherds, we have up to 24 Shepherds on our open property who help with structured socialization and behavioral work.
Our dogs are never rushed through the system. Every Shepherd stays with us a minimum of 30 days. During that time, they live with us — in our home, in our bedroom, by our
side while we mow the lawn, relax in the evening, or throw a ball in the yard.

They are not sitting in kennels waiting to be chosen.
They are learning how to be family.

Why This Matters to You
When you adopt from Misfit Acres, you are not getting a mystery dog.

You will know exactly who your Shepherd is.
We carefully match each dog to each applicant:

Working family? You need a Shepherd who can stay home without redecorating your house.

Active retiree? We’ll match you with a Shepherd who can keep up with your energy.

Fireplace and quiet evenings? We have couch companions too.

Frequent social gatherings? You’ll want a Shepherd who greets guests with a wagging tail — not a security detail.
This level of matching only comes from truly knowing our dogs — and we truly know them.

An Open-Kennel, Pack-Socialized Rescue

Our open-kennel property allows up to 24 Shepherds to run and interact daily under structure and supervision. They learn social skills, boundaries, confidence, and stability.
They are rehabilitated. Balanced. Prepared.

Affordable, Because It’s About the Dogs!

Shepherds with this level of rehabilitation typically come with a very high price tag.

Not here.
Our adoption fee is only $200, with a 75% discount for Military, Police, and Fire.
We believe heroes deserve heroes.

We’re Family — Forever

Adoption is not the end of the relationship.
If behavioral questions arise, we are here.
If you need guidance, we are here.
If you need to go on vacation or travel for work, they can always come back to stay with us.
Once a Misfit Shepherd, always a Misfit Shepherd.
We are their grandparents forever.

Story Time: “The pack of the well-behaved Misfits”

By:Matt Hogue

I met Michael OrapelloandRoxane M Shepherdsthrough a tag on their facebook post from a friend who follows their page where they were looking for a photographer for their pack of Shepherds and to say I stumbled upon a little hidden fairy tale story of some of the most bad ass people you could imagine… just doesn’t seem to really set the tone as good as I wish It could!

Michael ex-New York police officer turned Shepard of Shepherds, moved to Alabama with the idea that “I’ll move to Alabama where its quiet and retire” but what he found was everything but quiet!!!

He found one Shepherd after the next in dire need and he wasn’t going to just ignore them, he chose to act… So?? The pack continued to grow. Not only did his pack grow but he met Roxane through all of this. Someone who also has the heart the size of a German Shepherd herself! Someone who has now become pack mama or Queen of the pack if you will!!

Roxane was strong enough to share with me that she’s in recovery from alcoholism and how much the pack not only means to her but how grateful she is to them for being the anchor to her sobriety and how she chooses everyday, one day at a time to keep coming back and she does it not only for herself but for the pack as a whole and that to me is the mindset of a true Queen!

The energy of the pack itself is something to behold but the energy of Michael and Roxane intermingling within the pack as accepted members, saviors and leaders was something of an entirely different level of energy that just can’t be explained with words. That’s where I come in!!

So everyone, it is my honor to introduce you all to…my Two….. no…… EIGHTEEN of my newest friends! Michael, Roxane and 16 of the most beautiful and well behaved Rescued family members…. The PACK of Misfit Shepherds!!!!

Please share the heck outta this and go follow their page because they need all the love they can get so they can find better resources to care for all of these babies that so many others have given up on. They’ve proven time and time again that its not the dog, its the owner who makes a “bad” dog. The dogs just want to be loved and thats exactly what they’ve given them!

So please go show them how we roll at Nikon Ninja Photographyand go like their page! My followers are some of the most loving people and this is a page that deserves some of that love!!!
